Axe the Tax

No government at all three levels in Canada is your friend.

As prices for everything increase, property taxes go up, provincial taxes go up and federal taxes like the carbon tax go up.

Every Canadian from left to right should be pissed off regarding our overbearing overspending moronic bureaucrats and politicians.

The small vegetable and grocery stores often have a much better selection and cheaper prices. And it's more fun to shop there. More of a feeling of a community on top of it. However, inflation, the carbon tax on fuel that the truckers have to pay have much to do with the costs, not the least of which is the garbage currency that we live when groceries are imported from the United States, caused greatly by the Trudeau government. But they are soon to be ousted.

I can’t speak on the situation in British Columbia but I generally found Safeway to be the highest retail prices mixed with the best on sale prices so pick your poison. We were in Montana this past summer and found grocery prices to be much higher than at home in Alberta even when comparing Walmart U.S. and Walmart Canada. In some cases even prior to factoring in the dollar exchange. ($5.00 CA$ Crest toothpaste at home and $5.50 US$ in the U.S. Walmarts). Inviting in competition is always welcome but the nature of capitalism is that eventually the bigger fish will just acquire the smaller fish and we’re back to square one. Bottom line is market forces always prevail so when input costs go up, as they certainly have, retail prices will go up exponentially. Check out the wholesale price of cattle if you want a real shock. Can’t blame Loblaws for that. Involving the government in any meaningful way would only be adding a new level of dysfunction. By the time the administrative burden is factored in a million dollar program likely spends less than half of those dollars on the target of that program.

We're due an election immediately after the fiasco of Liberals/NDP ruining our country. The inflation was deliberate and destructive to everyone. It's a vote for Conservatives or PPC no one else.

This article highlights an interesting point about grocery price variations. Unfortunately, comparing prices of four items from a single farmer's market to one Safeway location doesn't necessarily reflect national grocery store pricing. Grocery prices can vary significantly across regions, and focusing on a single trip in Burnaby limits the generalization of the findings.

For a more comprehensive picture of national food inflation, we can refer to Statistics Canada's data https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/topics-start/food-price, where they track price changes for a wider basket of groceries (206 items).

To draw more widely applicable conclusions, please consider some additional factors, which I believe are relevant to a review:

• Grocery Store Profit Margins: Examining grocery store profit margins alongside inflation rates can provide further context.

• Taxation and Currency: The impact of taxes on businesses and consumers, as well as currency fluctuations, can influence food prices.

• Immigration and Scarcity: While immigration can affect demand, a broader analysis is needed to understand its role in potential food scarcity.

By incorporating these factors, I believe we could gain a deeper understanding of grocery price variations. This would lead to more informed discussions about food affordability and potential solutions, which may include local sourcing and reducing food waste.

Safeway and Save-On (Pattinson owned) are the two most expensive grocery stores in my small interior BC city. I note that big chains in the central urban core have the highest prices. People who live downtown tend not to have vehicles, relying on buses. Their shopping choices are restricted by how much effort they want to invest getting out to the suburbs. Think what that means for 15 minute cities.

I always likes The Red Apple more than Triple A when I lived in Burnaby.
