UPDATE: Former Mountie id'ed first by The Bureau charged in PRC intelligence probe
Bill Majcher 'allegedly used his knowledge and extensive contacts in Canada to obtain intelligence' to benefit the PRC
A big development in the RCMP’s Chinese interference probes and confirmation ofThe Bureau’s exclusive, internationally-leading reporting.
Bill Majcher, the former covert Mountie operator identified exclusively last week in The Bureau’s report, has been charged for allegedly providing services and intelligence to the People’s Republic of China.
Per my sources, Canadian intelligence’s focus on Majcher elevated in early 2019 after the Meng Wanzhou arrest.
And the RCMP’s concerns about Majcher intensified in the fall of 2022, after Mounties launched investigations into so-called Chinese police stations and PRC covert repatriation operations in Canada.
Looking at the RCMP’s statement on the Majcher case, in connection to my recent source information, it’s clear that INSET’s Chinese interference probe is focused on insider threats in Canada.
I have also confirmed from multiple sources, the U.S. and U.K. governments have reportedly been abreast of concerns in the Majcher probe, specifically related to Majcher’s contacts in law enforcement communities.
